The spirit of Fred Gordon hovers over Hallamore Lake. He moved there in 1929 and in 1933 inherited the property from Bill Hewitt.

Fred farmed the land for a few years, then took on a partner. The pair built a dairy and supplied the workers at the Windpass mine until the mine shut down. After that, a series of owners allowed Fred to live out his life there, farming and trapping until 1957.

Bill Hewitt’s house became a lodge and sometime resort during the fifties, but a fire left no trace of it.

Until 2000, when Jack Kobelt bought the land, a collection of rented cabins near the lake provided year-round homes. The lake was also a popular site for community events – a tradition that will continue even though the old cabins have been replaced by luxury chalets.
