The Horseshoe Trail is an easy 3 km (1.9 mi) hike along a large bend in the Clearwater River that is shaped like a horseshoe. The main draw to this route is the viewing opportunities for spawning Chinook salmon in August and September. During other times of year, the trail is home to an abundance of small mammals, birds, waterfowl and the odd large mammal such as moose.
