Bird Watching

The untouched wilderness of the area is a haven for birds. Birdwatchers will want to bring binoculars for a closeup view of a variety of birds, including:

  • Woodpeckers
  • Grouse
  • Grey jays
  • Nutchhatches
  • Chickadees
  • Hummingbirds

In fact, over 250 birds have been recorded around the Wells Gray area! You will be extremely lucky if you spot a black-crowned night-heron or Northern Mockinbird. Also rare to spot are many of Wells Gray’s owls, ducks and sandpipers that pass through during migration.

For a fun bird-watching challenge, print out the Wells Gray bird watching checklist and see how many you can spot.
