What’s Going On Around Here?

Most of Alpine’s guests come here to take advantage of our spectacular natural surroundings. Wells Gray Park and the resort amenities at Alpine offer so many options, it’s hard to fit everything into one trip. However, there are regular events in and around the Clearwater area that really make this part of the world come alive.

Clearwater Farmers Market

Saturdays, May-October
9am-12pm
73 West Old North Thompson Highway
(on the grounds of Interior Whitewater Expeditions)

Our local Farmers’ Market is legendary in these parts; offering excellent local produce and meats, delicious baked treats, artisanal products, plants, and crafts, this is a perfect spot to stock your Alpine chalet kitchen, or up the ante at your campfire!

Enjoy live music at the Events tent, or arrive early, and take part in the Clearwater Elks Association Pancake Breakfast (served next door from 8-11). Saturdays at the market are a delicious way to start your North Thompson weekend.

Summer Solstice Disc Golf Tournament

June 22 & 23, 2019

Handy with a frisbee? Clearwater is the place for you this summer! This is the third year of the Summer Solstice tournament, held on the beautiful disc-golf course at the Wells Gray Golf Resort. Organized in the same manner as a traditional golf tournament, players will enjoy two days of challenges on the links, including a Masters division and finals rounds. Reservations are required for this C-tier PDGA event.

Canada Day

The whole community (that includes visitors!) is invited to this District of Clearwater annual celebration! Traditional family events and fun make this the perfect way to enjoy the holiday. Among the activities: face painting and games, water activities, live entertainment and dancing, and plenty of time on the beach. Tempt your summer taste buds with bbq, watermelon, and ice cream under the beautiful, brand-new picnic shelter. Wear your red and white, and get into the Canada Day spirit!

Wednesday Night Sci-Fi & Star Gazing 

July & August

Outer space can really ignite the imagination! Enhance the twinking delights with an evening of retro sci-fi films and real-life stargazing. The Wells Gray area is fortunate to have clear, dark skies, ideal for allowing the stars to shine. Head out to Wells Gray Air for an outdoor screening of a classic movie, and a great view of the constellations through 16-inch telescopes. Some evenings will include informative talks from BC Parks community astronomers. Concessions are available, but bring your own blanket (and plenty of suspended imagination!).

Thursday Night Concerts

The North Thompson Music Guild hosts free all-ages evening concerts throughout the summer! Bring your picnic blankets to the new outdoor stage, and relax to the sounds of a variety of music styles (or maybe you’d like to get up and dance!). Food and drinks for sale –make it a dinner date!

Serenity Music Concerts

June-September

Serenity Music is an indoor/outdoor venue in the magnificent North Thompson wilderness designed to showcase the magic of music. Multiple stages, excellent campgrounds, and a welcoming, family-friendly vibe provide a perfect backdrop for talented national and international artists. Shows range from blues to folk to roots to rock. Check their Facebook page for up-to-date listings.

Ticket to Ride – 2-Day Clearwater River Rafting Trip

July 13-14, 2019

This overnight, fully-equipped rafting trip takes locals and visitors alike on a professionally-guided tour of some of BC’s best whitewater. Hike and raft through Wells Gray’s most awe-inspiring sights. Along with excitement, adventure, and plenty of refreshing splashes, guests will be treated to gourmet meals and lots of information about the history and geology of the area (and excellent companionship, to boot!).

12th Annual Clearwater Kayak Festival

July 19-21, 2019

Come make a splash and join the fun! This weekend-long paddling party welcomes participants from across BC to a variety of events, races across some of BC’s best rapids, tons of prizes, boat demos, post-race celebrations with live music, film screenings, and more. Spectators are invited to join in the fun! Rafting trip giveaways, courtesy of Riverside Adventures, mean even non-kayakers can enjoy the river. Clearwater Children’s Arts Festival

Sponsored by the North Thompson Arts Council, this free event welcomes all of the area’s little ones (and their families)! Kid-friendly performances, interactive music and arts activities, take-home crafts, face painting (of course!), entertainment, and plenty of delicious treats make this a great way to spend the day.

Candle Creek Half-Marathon

August 24, 2019

Hosted by the Wells Gray Outdoors Club, this race is sure to become an annual event! With a variety of routes appropriate for all ages and abilities, participants can explore the breathtaking Candle Creek trail system through old-growth rainforest and hillsides with expansive views over the magnificent valley. Registration is limited, so book your spot early.

First Fish Ceremony

Raft River Salmon Viewing Platform

The salmon has always been central to the North Thompson’s aboriginal community. The First Fish ceremony celebrates the return of the salmon to the Raft River spawning grounds by inviting visitors to learn about the history and cultural practices of the area’s Simpcw First Nation. At this annual event, visitors can participate in traditional games and taste local delicacies prepared with indigenous cooking techniques. Among the day’s highlights: view the awe-inspiring salmon as they return to their home waters, hear history come alive through storytelling, and watch demonstrations of the rich cultural history of the North Thompson.

Serenity Harvest House Concert Weekend

This laid-back weekend event welcomes two incredible Canadian roots artists to the gorgeous North Thompson region. Enjoy the sounds of summer with the talented Ken Stead and JUNO nominee, Megan Nash. Music lovers of all ages are invited! Take part in the evening potluck meals (with the bands!) and community bonfire jams at this unique and stunning indoor/outdoor venue.

North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo

Spend Labour Day weekend enjoying the delights of a true western harvest fair. The rodeo features traditional events, such as chuckwagon races, barrel races, and a variety of equestrian competitions, as well as the BCRA Polaris Championship Finals! Enjoy all of the family fun of a provincial fair, with logging shows, 4H competitions, livestock and poultry contests, agricultural products and competitions, a juried art event, baking and canning contests, live entertainment, exhibits and vendors, and, of course, a parade! This beloved annual community event is the ideal way to welcome in the fall season.

Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour

As we end our season at Alpine Meadows, we always look forward to the Banff Mountain Film Festival, sponsored by the Wells Gray Outdoors Club. The touring festival showcases the highlights and award-winners from the previous year. Exciting adventures from around the world are captured in these incredible films. Enjoy stunning and awe-inspiring stories and an evening of entertainment, with gastronomic delights to accompany the screenings.

Harvest Faire: A Celebration of Local Food
